Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche Reunite in Gripping Retelling of ‘The Odyssey’ for Paramount+
This moving retelling of the last chapters of Homer’s nearly 2,800-year-old Odyssey stars Ralph Fiennes as Odysseus, the warrior-king who left his wife, Penelope (Juliette Binoche), for 20 years to fight in the Trojan War.
In his absence, Penelope is hounded by increasingly threatening suitors who want her hand in order to seize power.
Battered and almost broken after his long, er, odyssey, her husband returns just in time to participate in a challenge Penelope has devised to decide her future husband: each admirer must attempt to shoot an arrow through a row of axes with Odysseus’ bow.
Fiennes’ and Binoche’s emotionally resonant performances make an ancient tale feel compellingly modern.
