Pedro Pascal Shines in Nostalgic, Action-Packed ’80s Oakland Anthology ‘Freaky Tales’
These “tales” are four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, Calif.
In one, Pedro Pascal plays a burned-out enforcer trying in vain to escape his homicidal past. Next, there’s the rap battle between two BFFs (Dominique Thorne and Normani) and Bay Area legend Too $hort.
Finally, Ben Mendelsohn stars as a crooked detective who’s scheme is to rob the home of a basketball star played by Jay Ellis which goes spectacularly awry.
This sweet indie film is a must-see for Pascal’s powerful performance, the loose, playful storytelling, and a boatload of ’80s nostalgia.
