Chrysalis Theatre Company is set to debut “She Takes Flight,” a new play exploring the complexities of reaching middle age.

The production, opening on May 17 at the Chain Theatre in New York City, promises a poignant and humorous look at the lives of women navigating midlife.

Written and performed by an ensemble of five women, including Sora Baek, Cindy Keiter, Gabriela Kohen, Adina Taubman, and Susan Ward, the play delves into themes of aging, identity, and resilience. Directed by Kelly ODonnell, the production is part of The Factory Series at Chain Theatre, which supports productions with resources like subsidized space and marketing.

“Were a group of women in our late 40s to late 60s who have come together to create something healing, hilarious, and fiercely human,” said Taubman, artistic director of Chrysalis Theatre Company. “The play builds sisterhood from our shared truths — heartbreak, absurdity, and all.”

The play’s narrative is built around personal stories, exploring issues such as body image, motherhood, and the challenges of aging. The production aims to resonate with a multi-generational audience, offering a reflection on the evolving journey of womanhood.

“She Takes Flight” runs from May 15 to June 8, with performances Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets are available for $25 at chrysalistheatrecompany.com.
